Welcome to part two of the “10 Emerging Womenswear Designers” series. We are scouting out the industry’s top women’s designers who are new to the scene, but have a SS17 collection worth talking raving about!

6. Chanel-Monét Thomas

EL MONÉT is a British fashion label founded by Chanel-Monét Thomas, a 25 year old fashion designer born and raised in Birmingham. In 2013, after 1 1/2 years of studying theatre production at a London university, she dropped out to pursue a career in fashion. Over the last couple of years Chanel has taken part in events such as London Fashion Week and the Clothes Show Live as well as various off schedule fashion shows.

7. Molly Goddard

London-born and based Molly Goddard graduated from Central St Martins in 2012 with a BA in Fashion Knitwear. She continued at CSM to obtain her MA in Fashion Knitwear in 2014.

Molly specialises in traditional hand-craft techniques such as hand pleating, smocking and crocheting. Her collections are held in some of the most prestigious stockists worldwide including Dover Street Market and Comme des Garcons. Molly won British Emerging Talent award at the 2016 Fashion Awards.

Her work touches upon themes of special occasions, nostalgia and coming of age, often taking inspiration from party dressing and Sunday best. The techniques that she utilises serve to create clothes that are both delicate and fragile. She brings a clumsy and charming awkwardness to her silhouettes and fabric combinations.

8. Richard Malone

Richard Malone graduated from Central Saint Martins BA Fashion Womenswear in 2014. His graduate collection opened the years BA Fashion press show and was awarded the Deutsche Bank Award for Fashion. Malone’s graduate collection was immediately stocked in Ireland’s leading luxury department store, Brown Thomas Dublin (part of the Selfridges group). Soon after graduating, Malone launched his line “Richard Malone” with a presentation for Autumn/Winter 2015.

Malone’s collections have been celebrated by international press and featured in major print and online publications including Dazed,Vogue Italia, Vogue India, British Vogue, The Independent and the Irish Times!

9. Mary Benson

Mary Benson is a London-based womenswear designer, born in Leeds who moved to London in 2009 to study Fashion Design at the University of Westminster.

Benson is renowned for her magical clothes and fantastical landscapes of print and textiles, often taking inspiration from her own dreams. Her collections have an ethereal quality with a myriad of printed imagery.

10. Marta Jakubowski

Marta Jakubowski was born in Poland and grew up in Germany. She graduated with an MA from the Royal College of Art in 2014. She gained experience with  Alexander Wang, Jonathan Saunders and Bruno Pieter, before setting up her own label.

Marta’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection is host to many block colour unitards. She uses interesting (and sometimes daring) cut outs, creating emphasis on various body parts.
