Almost Prima Ballerina

One trend dominating this season is the very chic ballet look. I’m sharing how you can embrace this trend without looking like a prima ballerina.

The ballet trend is huge for Autumn/Winter 16.  Leotards, tulle skirts and ballet inspired flats are firmly on this season’s fashion radar.  ZARA has a dedicated ballet inspired capsule collection, Miu Miu is trailblazing ballerina with a punk edge and Valentino is doing whimsical at it’s best.  As a girly girl at heart, I couldn’t be more delighted this feminine and chic look is dominating the style stakes.  Although for many, including myself, rocking a full ballet inspired ensemble is just a tad overboard, so I’m sharing how you can dip your toe into this trend without looking like you’ve just stepped out of the Royal Ballet.

There are so many reasons why I love a ballet pump.  They are so comfortable but still manage to have that polished Parisian chic look to them.  This satin pair is from ZARA and are a bargain at £19.99.  Although if I’m totally honest, if you want a shoe which is hard wearing you should probably invest in a leather pair (ZARA also do a very similar pair in leather in various colours for £39.99), as the satin pair get filthy and destroyed very quickly.

My favourite way to wear these is with some cropped trousers so you can really see the ribbon details.  Also, for all the girls out there like me, who have chunkier legs and in particular big calves and/or ankles, this is the most flattering way to wear this wrap round the leg style.  If you’ve got a very slender leg then these will also look adorable with tights teamed with a pretty tea dress.

Aside from my trousers I’ve tried to stick to a soft and feminine colour palette, so it’s still in keeping with that “ballet look”.  The powder blue knit, soft pink clutch bag and cream pearls help to keep the look on trend, without being too OTT.

As a side note, this jumper is from the BEST knitwear brand ever.  If you’re looking for some gorgeous knitwear for the winter I cannot recommend I Love Mr Mittens enough.  It is slightly on the pricier side but you are 100% getting what you pay for.  The quality is absolutely phenomenal and I promise you this is the cosiest knit you’ll try.  Be sure to check out their knitted bomber which is currently on my wish list!
